What We Do

The BlackRock Alternative Investors group offers public and private institutions access to a spectrum of alternative investments, including hedge funds, private equity, renewable energy sources and real estate. Our products address the investment, operational and organizational issues our clients face, and enable us to best meet their needs.

What You’ll Do

The BlackRock Alternative Investors group is divided into five teams, each with its own set of roles and responsibilities:

Capital Markets Analysts are responsible for:

  • Working closely with account and portfolio managers, internal and external counsel, and various investment banks in the research, development and execution of new structured product offerings
  • Creating marketing presentations, developing investor communications, and responding to due diligence questionnaires and requests for proposals for existing and potential investors
  • Interacting with other departments across the firm, including our investment teams, BlackRock Solutions, and client businesses, to service existing clients’ needs

Hedge Fund of Funds Analysts are responsible for:

  • Working closely with research analysts and portfolio managers to review and extract capital markets information for use in research meetings and comparative analysis of hedge funds
  • Participating in, and periodically leading, special projects related to capital markets and/or the hedge fund industry
  • Contributing to the collection and sharing of information gathered through interaction with external hedge fund managers
  • Preparing manager information for inclusion in marketing documents
  • Interacting with other groups inside BlackRock, such as Operations, Due Diligence, Risk Management and BlackRock’s client businesses

Private Equity Fund of Funds Investor Relations Analysts are responsible for:

  • Tracking and distributing offering materials
  • Organizing road shows
  • Preparing customized marketing presentations
  • Working closely with senior Investor Relations professionals to complete meeting follow-ups
  • Gaining familiarity with industry data services, including Venture Xpert, Private Informant and S&P LCD
  • Contributing to the preparation of materials in support of Investor Relations and Operations

Private Equity Fund of Funds Analysts are responsible for:

  • Learning the basics of, and actively participating in, the investment process
  • Participating in weekly investment review meetings, and conducting analysis of returns and financial modeling
  • Gaining a deeper understanding and appreciation of the private equity market
  • Overseeing the team’s weekly investment deal log
  • Gaining familiarity with financial databases, such as Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Venture Economics, PMD Zone, etc.
  • Contributing to the preparation of materials in support of Investor Relations and Operations

Executive Team Analysts are responsible for:

  • Contributing to special projects, including strategic analyses and alternatives market research
  • Coordinating presentations for BlackRock’s senior leadership
  • Participating in the implementation of best practices across the alternatives platform
  • Interacting frequently with the Corporate Finance team to review financial management reporting, and develop relevant reporting materials
